Verl Radcliff (Bucky) Thompson

    Mr. Verl Radcliff Thompson (Bucky) was born July 13, 1962 in Laurinburg, NC to the late Vernon R Thompson and Norma Jean Jones Thompson and departed this life on July 11, 2021.

Verl attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  From there he embarked on a lifelong career with UPS where he retired as a Plant Engineering Manager in Atlanta, GA. Along the way Verl met and married Anita Marie Estes in their hometown of Pembroke, NC on October 18, 1986. Their story took them all along the east coast from New York down to Georgia with stops in between, and their final chapter spent where it once began. Together they raised two children Austin and Maria.

In his years of retirement, Verl enjoyed spending time landscaping and working on projects around the house. Verl was an avid reader, loved to learn and enjoyed music and classic cars. Verl is remembered for his kindness, generosity, leadership and unconditional love for others. His laughter will always be remembered as well as his saying, “One day at a time.”

Verl is survived by his loving wife, Anita Estes Thompson of the home; one son, Austin Tyler Thompson of Fayetteville, NC; one daughter, Maria Taylor Thompson of Fraser, CO; two sisters, Lydia T. Cecil (Charles) of Laurinburg, NC and Norma (Lori) T. Good (Norman) of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Vernon R. Thompson of Pembroke, NC; special family friends, Joseph Dean Lowery, Jeremy Dean Lowery and Janine Lowery

and a host of other relatives and friends.
