Thomas Maynor Obituary

Mr. Tommy Maynor departed this life on early Saturday morning, August 31, 2024 at his home in Pembroke, N.C.

Mr. Tommy was born on April 13, 1942 to the late Rev. Roy W. Maynor and Mrs. Lela Francis Jones Maynor. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Mr. Roy Willie Maynor Jr. and Mr. James Fredrick Maynor; 3 sisters Ms. Delphia Louise Locklear, Ms. Sandra Kay Warriax, and Ms. Iris M. Locklear.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ms. Betty Lou Maynor of 62 years (1962); a son Dr. Thomas Maynor and wife April Maynor, three daughters Ms. Rhonda Cummings, Ms. Denise Grove and Miss Candi Maynor; 10 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. His brother Mr. Bobby Maynor and wife Arleen, two sisters Ms. Geri Fisk, Ms. Helen Joyce Malcom and a host of family and friends.

In 1971, Mr. Tommy became a deacon and has served the church continuously through roles in leadership, teaching Sunday school, the Ambassadors for Christ Royal Rangers, camping, youth outreach, and countless church events.  He remained dedicated and was honored to play his part, to establish, support, and serve as a deacon and elder of Brush Arbor Community Fellowship Church.

In addition to working with Uncle Bobby as part of Pembroke Timber Company, He was known for his ability in the game of golf.  For over 60 years, he has played golf all over North and South Carolina and anywhere else that he could, on any and every course and tournament that his golfing buddies could get to.  He was often considered an “A player” and was well respected as one of the finest players around.  He was always welcomed and dearly loved as a player and as a friend.

Regardless of who you were or where you were from, once you got around Mr. Tommy, you knew just how much he liked to joke, to laugh, to eat, to play golf and to lift up others around him.  He truly was a pleasure to be around and will continue to be loved and very much missed by us all.
