Patsy Thompson Obituary

Mrs. Patsy Thompson, age 81, of the Prospect Community, was born in Robeson County on January 26, 1944, to the late Garner and Ocie Locklear. She departed this life for her heavenly reward on July 28, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by family and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Rev. Gary P. Thompson; daughter, Amelia Thompson; five brothers: James, Garner Jr., Willie, Rayfield, and Harold; two sisters: Nessie and Margaret; and several other cherished family members.

Mrs. Patsy leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Amiria Thompson-Chavis of the home, and her husband Dustin; one grandson, Micah P. Thompson-Prather of Red Springs; two granddaughters, Ashleigh E. Prather of Prospect and Aslyn G. Thompson-Chavis of the home; one brother, Hurley Locklear and wife Margaret of the Prospect Community; and one sister, Shelby Tobias of Baltimore, Maryland. She also leaves behind special nieces Antonia Maria Clark and Una Gail Locklear, both of the Prospect Community; special nephews Wilton Clark of Prospect and David Clark of Sanford, Art Thomas Locklear of Huntersville; and a beloved great-niece and caretaker, Abigail Locklear. She is also remembered by numerous other nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by two step-grandsons, Adrian Chavis and Joshua Chavis, both of Rowland; a special bonus grandson, Ezra Prather of Red Springs; adopted daughters Joyce Jacobs of Red Springs and Nan Locklear of the Prospect Community; a bonus son, Jonathan Prather and family of Red Springs; and dear family friends John Garth Britt, Carmen, Rae Don, Sheneen, Megan, Ashkea, Sherry, Allison, Miranda along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Thompson, alongside her husband, founded Thompson’s Funeral Home in Pembroke on July 3, 1988. A dedicated servant to her community, she shared not only compassion and care through her work, but also a deep and abiding faith in Christ. Prior to her years in funeral service, she retired after 28 years as a teacher, where she taught Home Economics with grace, dignity, and purpose.

For 33 years, Mrs. Thompson also faithfully led Bible Drill through the Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, instilling a love of Scripture and spiritual discipline in generations of young people. Her life’s mission was to teach and exemplify virtue through class, and through Christ placing Christ above all. Though her desire to live was great, her desire to be with Jesus was even greater.

Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Mrs. Thompson and her family along with heartfelt appreciation to Jo Ellen Jones, Carol Locklear, and Rachel Locklear for their dedicated support and love.
