Mary Sue Lowery, of James Lynn Drive, Pembroke, was born February 25, 1949 to James and Flora Locklear, and entered into her eternal home on August 4, 2021, making her journey 72 years. A born-again Christian in word and deed, her life exemplified grace, humility, and love for others.
She was a devoted wife of 24 years to James Lynn Lowery until his death in 1993 and is survived by three daughters. In following their mother’s example, they provided exemplary care for her for many years, along with their families.
Mary Sue loved all things beautiful, including flowers, kind words and people. After many years of work in the local textile industry, she found her calling and her joy in providing care for her grandchildren in her home.
Mary Sue was a living testimony of hard work, love for family, and Christ like living. A true survivor, Mary Sue was diagnosed with a serious heart condition at the age of 16 following a battle with rheumatic fever. Despite this health challenge, she lived an incredibly full life and attributed this to her faith in God.
Mary Sue centered her life around the lives of her family, both immediate and extended, and her friends. She is survived by daughters Tina Lowery of Pembroke; Robin Woodell and husband, Brian of Pembroke; and Beth Oxendine and husband, Vernanda “Vee” of the home.
Mary is also survived by three brothers, Cerles Locklear, James Ervin Locklear and Mitchell Locklear; five sisters, Betty Hunt, Glenda Crouse, Helen Locklear, Roshella Manis, Linda Deese; five grandchildren, who she adored, Garnie Lowery III, Lyndsay Woodell, Tala Lowery, Lillie Oxendine and Isaiah Oxendine, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Mary Sue is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Floyd Locklear and Larry Locklear; two sisters, Susan Ann Clark and Sherry Locklear; and a son-in-law, James Garnie Lowery II.
