Marrine Strickland, age 93, passed away on the morning of October 2, 2024. Marrine was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who dedicated her life to caring for others. Born on July 14, 1931, Marrine’s life was defined by her deep sense of compassion and service. She worked as a nurse for decades, where her kindness and dedication left an indelible mark on her patients and colleagues alike. In addition to her nursing career, Marrine opened her heart and home as a foster parent for many years, providing love and stability to countless children in need. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, and she always found joy in helping others. Marrine was also a devoted matriarch, and her family meant everything to her. She cherished her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom she nurtured with love and wisdom. Marrine was married twice during her life, first to Clifton Ray Oxendine and later to James Clyde (J.C.) Strickland. Both husbands preceded her in death, but she carried the love and memories of them throughout her life. Along with her husbands, Marrine is preceded in death by her parents, Danny and Edna Sanderson; her children, Master Delton Ray Oxendine, Anthony (Tony) Ray Oxendine, Adrian Dwight Oxendine, Deborah (Debbie) Prestridge, Sharon Dale McMillian, and Michael Vincent Oxendine; her granddaughter, Eugenia Sue Mishoe; and her great-granddaughter, Edna Trinity Mazell Hunt. She is survived by her children, Edwinna Sue Jacobs (Eugene) of Maxton, Mitchell Wayne Oxendine of the home, and Jerry Donald Strickland of Delaware; her nieces, Diane Clark of Pembroke, Pam Jacobs of Lumberton, and Helen Marie Jacobs of Lumberton; 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. A celebration of Marrine’s life will be held on October 6, 2024, at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church. A viewing will be held at 2 p.m., with services beginning at 3 p.m. Marrine’s kindness and generosity will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
