Juanita (Odom) Brooks

Juanita Odom Brooks passed into the arms of our Lord on August 14, 2022 at the age of 86 after an extended illness.  She was born in Baldwin County, Alabama on April 30, 1936 to John and Mary (Mae) Odom.  She made her home in Robeson County, NC in 1961 and lived there until she passed.  She was the mother of five children, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.  Her greatest accomplishments, in her own words, were raising her children, helping to care for her grandchildren and caring for her husband, especially through his terminal illness.  She loved “family” and was the embodiment of family, fun and togetherness.  She was always at the center of any animated conversation, in which there were thousands!  She loved a lively house full of children and their friends.  She was famous for the wonderful cakes and goodies she always made during the holiday season.  After serving twenty-seven years in the Robeson County school system, she retired to spend time being a caring grandmother to her grandchildren.  Being a caring wife, mother and grandmother was her legacy. 

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Winford Earl (Squeaky) Bullard, her mother and father (John and Mae Odom), sisters (Ora Dee Wilkerson, Zeola Mixon, Alberta Mixon) and brother John Calvin Odom.   She is survived by two sisters, Venola Thomaston of Fairhope, AL and Delores Pose of Milton, FL, five children, Kathy (Allen) Rushing of Apex, NC, Bonny Cummings of Pembroke, NC, Connie Brooks Fernandez (Gabriel) of Sanford, NC, Debbie (Reggie) Scott of Lumberton, NC and John  (Dana) Brooks of Hampstead, NC, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
