Joann Locklear, age 63 of Pembroke, NC was born on August 04, 1956 at Scotland Memorial Hospital and passed on March 19, 2020 at her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents Roscoe and Elma Lee Locklear and a sister, Gwenever Locklear.
Joann was an avid historian who loved learning about her history, culture and God. For many years she helped take care of her parents with whom she adored and looked up to. She was a seamstress for many and every stitch was sewn with love. Teaching was one of her many talents that showcased her devotion to people and the importance of education. She mentored many, without hesitation or thought. For quite a few years she participated in Women's Missionary Union (WMU) through the Baptist Association and Mission Friends, in which she helped individuals to grow in Christ and develop into disciples. Joann truly saw the colors of the world and was able to express her thoughts, dreams and ambitions through her writing and storytelling. Her acts of service towards her family, friends and church family were vast and implemented without expectation. She was a devoted servant of the Lord, a ruby of her time.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Island Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Revs. Jason Whitefield and Larry Locklear officiating.
She leaves to celebrate her life, three children; Kristina (William) Locklear-Cummings, Ian Bullard and Olivia Bullard and one granddaughter, Lydia Cummings; four brothers and sisters; Maxine (Don) Locklear, Fredia (Timothy) Lanham, Philip (Mandy) Locklear and Scott (April) Locklear and one special cousin, Janice Hoffman. She was blessed with a close relationship with her nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends. Joann was rooted in the word and her testimony was a light that was fully visible for everyone to see.
