Janice Locklear Obituary

Janice Womack Locklear also known as “Teeny” or “Jan”, 68, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.

Janice was born April 16th, 1957, in Hampstead, North Carolina to the late James Shelton Womack and Ina Mae Gilchrist Womack. She married Alex Locklear on August 14th, 1990. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They were blessed with three children: Shane, Shana, and Espadonsa.

Janice began her heart work in nursing in 1979 and retired from her nursing journey in 2017. She was known by her colleagues for her tireless energy. Janice loved her work in helping those in need. She was not only a devoted nurse, but a deeply cherished mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Above all, she was a woman of God, finding joy in prayer, strength in scripture, and peace in the promises of eternal life. Janice will be remembered for her fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone she met. She showed up not just in the easy moments, but in the ones that mattered most. She leaves behind a family and community who will carry her love forward in every shared memory, every act of kindness, and every story told in her honor.

Those who will continue to carry her light include her husband Alex Locklear, daughter Espandonsa Locklear, son Alex Locklear, and her 8 cherished grandchildren: Shana Leann Locklear, Esslyn O. Maynor, Christian Shane Locklear, Julius Locklear, Glenn Locklear, Eric McPherson, Amanye Robinson, Diamond Alexis Eppolito. She’s also lovingly remember by four brothers: James R. Womack (Oralia (OJ), Jody M. Womack, Ronald Womack, and Donald Womack (Joan); four sisters: Joyce Beard (the late Woodrow Beard), Debra Womack, Delores Jones (Byron), and Patricia Hendrix (Daniel); five sister-in-laws: Mable Locklear (the late Sanford Locklear), Betty L. Sampson(Larry), Peggy L. Hunt (the late Bobby E. Hunt), Rose L. White (Glenn), and Amelia Womack, as well as 40 nieces and nephews.

She is now held in eternal embrace by those who journeyed ahead, including her daughter Shana Lynn Locklear, parents James Shelton Womack & Ina Mae Gilchrist Womack, mother-in-law Debra Locklear, brother Robert Rowdy Womack, and nephews Dean S. Locklear, Jeffery Autry Brooks Jr, Bobby L. Hunt and Jason West.
