James Earl Chavis

Mr. James Earl Chavis, age 82 of 1700 McGirt Gin Road, Maxton, NC, was born on March 6, 1936 and departed this life on February 16, 2019 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, NC.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Benjamin Chavis and Carlie Chavis; his wife, Claretta Chavis; three brothers, Drake Chavis, Thurman Chavis and Riley Ray Chavis; four daughters, Harvaleen Chavis, Daphane Chavis, Mona Smith and Vickie Walters; one son, Sylvester Chavis; and a granddaughter, Melissa Chavis.

He is survived by one brother, Eric Chavis; six sisters, Annie Ree Locklear, Carlean Wallace, Eloise Chavis, Angie Chavis, Annie Lane Chavis and Claudine Chavis; two granddaughters, Jennifer Smith and Heather Walters; a grandson, Phillip Smith; 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
