Iris (Cummings) Locklear

Iris Cummings Locklear, 64, was born on December 18, 1956 and left her earthly home for her Heavenly Home on July 15, 2021.

She is proceeded in death by her parents John Earl Cummings, Sr. and Maitland Dimery Cummings, Sister Barbara Lyn Cummings (birth and death 11-08-52) and five other infant siblings.

Iris leaves to cherish her memory, husband Ricky Locklear of 21 years,  sister Enid Begay (Darryl) of Pembroke,  brother John Earl Cummings Jr. (Carol) of Pembroke, stepson Matthew Locklear(grandchildren  Makenzie ,Jaxon)  nephew Kalvin Begay, nieces Kyle Begay, Caroline Cummings and Camree Cummings.

She enjoyed spending time with her sister friends the "The Three Amigos" Melba Oxendine, Regina Gist and Iris. They traveled, shopped and dined together as Christian friends.

Iris is a life-long resident of Robeson County. She graduated from Pembroke High school in 1975 and UNCP with a B.A degree in social work where she spent her life helping her fellow Robesonians, with a 30 year-long career as an employee of Robeson County Social Services.

Upon retirement, she became the Vice President of Ricky Locklear Construction Company. This kept her busy but not so busy that she could not bake the best birthday cake in Robeson County.

Iris enjoyed serving the Lord with her gift of song. She was in the All State Choir in high school as well as in the UNCP Chorus. She used her gift to sing at an area nursing home, church choirs and various musical programs. She loved to participate with the Keenagers at Elrod Baptist Church, visit the sick and shut ins, volunteer at programs and camps such as Stop the Pain and Camp Grace.

Iris was a jewel that shined for the Glory of the Lord. She will be missed.
