Grady Locklear was born on June 28, 1937, and departed his earthly home on July 1, 2022, at the age of 85. He has been a lifelong resident of the Prospect Community.
Grady was born to Simmie Bullard and Girtue Lowry, adopted by Johnny and AnnaBelle Locklear. His sons, Rex Lowery and Carl Dean Locklear, preceded him in death.
Grady is survived by three children: Gerald (Lucy) Lowry, Jonathan Grady Locklear, and Dr. Tiffany (Terry) Locklear. He was a proud Papa Grady to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a brother, uncle, and friend. A special thank you to Rivers Edge of Lumberton and Community Home Care and Hospice.
As a citizen, Grady fulfilled his goal of becoming a well-known homebuilder in the counties of Robeson and Moore. He fulfilled his dream each time he nailed a board with a hammer. No one could drive a nail with one hammer like “Big Hand Grady.” He enjoyed riding through Moore County, showing his family the homes he had built. He loved building, and one of his final projects was the renovation of the Pinehurst Country Club.
