Gertha Mae Collins, 65, of Shannon, NC, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at First Health Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Gertha was born on January 18, 1960, in Scotland County to Redell Collins and the late Evelyn Locklear Collins. She grew up in Shannon, NC, and attended Red Springs High School, where she excelled both academically and in sports. After graduating, Gertha attended Brigham Young University and later earned an Associate Degree from Westchester Community College in Port Chester, New York.
Known for her quick wit and wise words, Gertha had a gift for bringing joy to any gathering. She was the star of every show, the one who kept things moving, and always the center of attention no matter where she went. With Gertha, there was never a dull moment.
She is survived by her father, Redell Collins; her son, Jason Ramon Collins; and her grandson, Jordan Matthew Alexander Collins. She is also survived by her five sisters: Glenda Sue Collins, Beverly Collins Hall, Angelia Renee Collins Sehbaoui (Said), Amanda Jacobs (Brock), and Nicole Collins; her step-sister Tara Jo Blue Locklear (Marland); and her three brothers: Harold Dean Collins, Jimmy Dean Collins (Cecelia), and James Jacobs. She leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, extended family members, friends, and many who loved and admired her.
Gertha was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Collins; her sister, Barbara Ann Goins; her niece, Shauntina Marie Collins; and her nephew, Jimmy Dean Collins Jr. (Duke).
