Elfreda (Freda) Chavis

 Ms. Elfreda (Freda) Chavis, our sister, 66 of Pembroke, NC finished her earth life journey, Sunday, August 2, 2020 at her home. She was born December 27, 1953 in Laurinburg, Scotland County, NC to Sherman Chavis and Inez Bullard Chavis. She was their second daughter.

            Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Inez B. Chavis and one brother, Terry Chavis.

            She is survived by her two sons’ Elliott Burton Chavis and Christopher Dalton Chavis; four sisters, Gale C Locklear, Nita Chavis, Garcie C Locklear and Lorna C Harris; many other family members, classmates from Prospect High School Class of 1972 and more friends than we can acknowledge.

            Freda graduated from UNC-Pembroke, May 1975 with a BA Degree in Sociology. After graduation she worked many years in Greensboro, NC. Then she returned home to Pembroke in 1994. She worked with Scotland County Department of Social Services until she retired in 2013. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many ways. At her death she was a Ward Missionary and a Family History (Genealogy) Consultant. She always encouraged her sons to choose the right. She loved her children, family and friends in a very personal and passionate way.
