Cara Locklear Obituary

Mrs. Cara Mae Locklear, 78, of 1692 Whistling Rufus Road, Pembroke NC, was born November 12, 1943 and entered her eternal home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at UNC Hospital of Chapel Hill NC.

Cara was the oldest daughter of the late John Bennie and Ruthie Jane Chavis and was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Farlin Chavis and Brantly Chavis Sr., and an infant great-granddaughter, Nahiyah Locklear.

Cara leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Colonel Locklear Jr. of the home; her beloved son, Jackie Ray Locklear and wife LaMeecha of Pembroke; her sweet daughter, Sandy Jacobs and husband, Redell of Maxton and her youngest daughter, Melodi Lowery and husband, Dr. Ashley of Lumberton, NC; twelve  grandchildren she adored;   Brittany, Peyton, Jacob, Joshua, Trinity, Colonel James ‘CJ’, Wyatt, Jarred, Jordan, Benjamin, Brenden, and Beau; seven great-grandchildren she cherished, Bransten, Xander, Ukiah, Iyovi, Paisley, Ella, and Macie; one brother, Vinson Chavis and three sisters, Caffie Kremski, Mary Lowery, and  Vickie Locklear.

Cara Mae began a career in teaching in the fall of 1965, and worked throughout Robeson County elementary schools her entire teaching career, spanning 30 years.  Cara enjoyed every moment of retirement and spent most of her time gardening, shopping, quilting, traveling, babysitting, baking and completing word search puzzles.

Cara was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.  She was devoted to her husband, her children, and their families and delighted in spending time with them.  Cara was a lifetime member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church where she faithfully and joyfully served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Department Director, Nursery Attendant and member of the Adult Choir.

Cara left a legacy to her family of God’s love and grace and was an example to all who knew her.  We look forward to the day we will be reunited in Heaven.
