Mrs. Camma Lean Morgan affectionately known as “Grouch” was born on August 2, 1940 to the late Mr. Ertle Locklear and the late Mrs. Marlean Locklear. Camma Lean passed away at her home on Monday, September 8, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Morgan, one son, Anthony Morgan, two brothers, Dr. Frank Woriax, and Arbus E. Locklear; and five sisters, Alean Byers, Sara Graham, Wyoner Bullard, Gennith Locklear, and Gracie B. Locklear.
Camma became a member of Green Pine Free Will Baptist Church in Philadelphus after accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She later joined Riverside Holiness Methodist Church and was a devout member until her passing.
Camma attended Pembroke High School before graduating from Pembroke State University in 1965 and earning a Master's degree in Education from Western Carolina University. Camma worked as an educator for 35 years. She completed 22 years educating at Oxendine Elementary School until retiring from East Robeson Elementary after 13 years of dedicated service to Robeson County students. Camma was committed to educating others and found immense satisfaction in being a member of groups that shared her values, among them:
v Lumber River Quilters Guild,
v National Education Association,
v SEJANAM (Southeastern Jurisdiction of Native American Ministries) of the United Methodist Church,
v Philadelphus Cluster Group,
v Assistant Sunday School Teacher,
v North Carolina Retired Governmental Employee Association.
v Sylvan Learning Center.
A proud member of the Lumbee Tribe, Camma loved to teach, loved to cook (she made the best pound cakes), she loved to fish and had a love for flowers and nature. She was the family historian and loved to support her church family and friends. She definitely loved to quilt as it was taught to her by her mother. She made quilts for almost every member of the family. Camma was the matriarch of our family and will truly be missed by all.
Camma is survived by: one daughter, Louann Locklear, of Pembroke, North Carolina; one son, Keith Morgan, of Pembroke, North Carolina; four sisters Connie Locklear, of Shallotte, North Carolina; Daphine Strickland (Daniel), of Jamestown, North Carolina; Trisha Morgan (David) and Lois Dial; four grandchildren, Constance L. Barton, Kateland D. Locklear, Tyler K. Morgan, and Noah L. Morgan; six great-grandchildren, Spc. Derrian T. Jenkins II (US Army); Caleb A. Barton, Laila R. Vincent, Jailan C. Vincent, Isabella Morgan, and McKenzie Morgan; four very special friends, Ola Jacobs, Tammy Locklear, Ruby Smith, and Caffie Kremski and a host of other relatives and friends.
