Brenda Moore Obituary

Brenda Jane Johnson Moore, age 74, of the Prospect Community, departed this life on August 16, 2025. This “golden heart” now beats with our loving Jesus. Mrs. Brenda, affectionately known as “BJ”, was born on November 28, 1950 to Leroy and Martha Lee Oxendine Johnson.

BJ was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Martha Lee Oxendine Johnson; an infant sister, Vickie Jean Johnson; two brothers, Ralph and Ben Johnson; two nephews, Timothy and Jeffrey Lynn Johnson; and a great nephew, Ben Willis Blackburn.

During her life, BJ could be found at the Pembroke Optometric Clinic where she served as Office Manager for 25 years. Her love of children led her to earn an AA degree in Early Childhood Development from Southeastern Community College. BJ was employed as a Child Care Center Director and served as a founding member of the Sandy Plains Church Child Care Center. In the latter role, she actively participated in fundraising functions to bring the Child Care Center from a dream to fruition as a valuable community resource for families seeking a safe, nurturing environment for their children. She remained a member of the Center’s governing committee from its inception in 1997 to 2024.

To cherish her memory, BJ is survived by her husband of 36 years, William Jeffrey Moore; two daughters, Lauren Breshen Moore Bolton (William Brandon) and Briana Page Moore; and, a source of joy and happiness in her life, five extraordinary grandchildren, Bristal Kenady Moore, Emry Skye Bolton, William Declan Bolton, Remi Blake Bolton, and Atlas Jack Moore; three sisters, Linda Johnson, Carolyn Johnson and Sheila PreVatte (Stephen Alan); and two brothers, Kenneth Johnson and William Henry Johnson (Julia). She is also survived by a special niece, Tammy Sue Johnson Harris, who was raised more like a sister, and a nephew, William Joshua Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews that she helped nurture and mentor in the cultural role of “mother”.

BJ was very much a “social butterfly”. She loved visiting and “catching up” with friends, family and patients. And, if you accompanied her to Walmart, you could expect to stay for an hour or more while she conversed with everyone she knew. She was kind, compassionate, humble, loving and just the sweetest person you could ever come to know. Her engaging smile was always endearing, accepting and encouraging. Her life focus was family and faith. As the “peace-maker” of the family, she was chosen (and directed) by her Mother to “keep the family together”, a challenging role with many “strong-willed” women, but one she handled effortlessly. Her children and grandchildren were a source of joy and pride. Known as “GIGI”, she was always available to her grandchildren, especially during the covid pandemic when she was “ever present” for online schooling. A life-long member of Sandy Plains Church, she was a nursery school teacher and served as a youth leader for many years.

BJ will be sorely missed by her family, church family and friends in the community. She will always be present in our memory and hearts. Her loving and caring heart will continue to influence this generation and the ones to come. Rest in peace, BJ. Your work on earth is done. We love you beyond words.
