Billy Ray Oxendine

Mr. Billy Ray Oxendine, 73, was a son of the late Bemes H. and Lacy Jr. Oxendine, born February 24,
1950, in Robeson County, North Carolina. He departed this life on July 29, 2023. Beyond his exemplary
service as a firefighter, Mr. Oxendine was cherished by his family, friends, neighbors and community for
his warm personality and compassionate nature. He was a friend to many offering a helping hand and a
listening ear to those in need.  
He was preceded in death by his daughters Brenda Rose Oxendine and Roxanne Jones; his grandchildren
Logan Currier, Raven Currier, Chloe Currier, Zoey Currier, Gabriella Currier, Bracy Logan Jones and Jarrett
Oxendine; and his brother Elwood Jones. 
He is survived by his wife Paulette J. Oxendine; his children Gerard (David) Scott, Gretchen (Bill) Chavis,
Dewayne (Monica) Oxendine, Ronnie (Rebecca) Jones, Charity (Bracy) Jones, Paulita Jones, Gary Jones
(Jessica Locklear), and Aliceson (Robert) Currier; his sisters Marguerite Oxendine, Gypsie Diane Locklear,
Wilma J. Clark, Carloyn Bullard, and Cathy (Eugene) Jacobs; his brothers Jerry (Mercy) Oxendine and
Larry Oxendine; 25 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. August 2, 2023 at Elrod Baptist Church. Burial will follow in
Willard’s Chapel Cemetery.
