Leary Wellon Chavis

Leary (Lib) completed his journey of 79 years of this life. He was born into eternity on Thursday April 18th, 2024 in the Angel House in Whiteville, NC. He was the 5th child (knee baby) of James and Edna Chavis.

Leary is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sabra Alice Chavis, his brother Randall W Chavis, sister Glenda Adkins and his daughter Shelly Carol Chavis. Leary is survived by grandchildren Erica Nicole Chavis and Raven Elizabeth Chavis, James Matthews and Nicholas Johnson both from Florida. Great grandchildren Sabella Aerionna Locklear, Chaska Wellon Rodriguez and Olivia Matthews; sister Dorothy Lowery, brothers James E Chavis, Jr, (Mary), Ed Chavis (Kathy) and a host of friends, particularly the Pembroke High School class of 1962.

Leary was a veteran of the US Air Force and was ecstatic to attend and participate in any and all functions with the Lumbee Warriors Society. During the last couple of years, he lived at Warriors Way in Raynham with other veteran families who took a concerted interest in his welfare. He had returned at that time from Michigan where he had family and friends there as well.
